Swimming for Health and Fitness

Swimming is a wonderful sport and the beauty of it is that it is non impact hence its popularity as a way of training for fitness and as a leisure activity. Swimming helps one to lose weight too while at the same time it is a relaxing activity. It is known to work every part of the body and does not exert undue pressure on joints and muscles. It sort of returns one to the womb and they say that babies swim effortlessly in a pool with minimal chances of drowning, of course with supervision. It is however important, just like in other sporting activities, to warm up the body and stretch before a swimming session.

Improving Heart Rate by Swimming

To start with, swim from one end of the pool to the other in a comfortable stroke such as back stroke or side stroke which allow you to float easily on the water. Increase the speed and intensity of the strokes to burn more calories and achieve the desired results. More experienced swimmers will use the butterfly or freestyle strokes which burn more calories as more muscles are involved. Moving from a fast pace to a slow one reduces the heart rate and ensure burning of more calories than when one stays at a constant pace.

To develop the shoulder and arm muscles, use hand paddles as they will offer some resistance. A kick board will strengthen leg and abdominal muscles while at the same time help to perfect a stroke by concentrating on leg movements only. Like in all activities, success is attained only through consistency. So swimming on a regular basis or even daily will ensure that the desired results of health and fitness are achieved faster. Swimming is also great as a recreational and socializing activity that all age groups enjoy.

Choosing Home Gym Colour Schemes

For the most part the interior decorating for a home gym must be invigorating, revitalizing and stimulating for effective workout sessions. A major consideration in this room’s décor is colour as it affects our moods and emotions making workouts either exciting or a dull chore. It may be assumed that the best colours for a home gym are then bright and crazy however practical is more like it to avoid tiring the eyes. The type of activities for the gym will also inspire the colours used in the gym making a cool blue ideal for a yoga room. For cardio exercises, orange is a good colour that expresses energy. However one may want to avoid red due to its hunger inducing quality!

Colour Effects on Workout Activities

Murals are a great way of accentuating gym walls and a great mural idea is one with people exercising which will be a huge boost moral-wise. Purple has the quality of keeping one alert and also is associated with transformation which is what a home gym is all about. Two tone walls are great for mixing bright colours and the not so bright in a creative way using trims like a chair rail. Different walls can have different colour effects like a green wall to bring in the outdoors while adding freshness and life contrasted with an orange or blue one for a truly energizing gym.

Any of these colours can be incorporated in the flooring which is ideally a carpet for sound muffling and for comfortable support of the lower limbs especially during floor exercises. Gym equipment comes in a variety of vibrant colours including neutral themes that complement any décor theme. The colour scheme and interior decorating chosen including the lighting and its effect on colour, should encourage rather than thwart the efforts of keeping fit.

Benefits of a Home Gym

The advantages of staying in good physical condition cannot be over emphasized, and to achieve this, a practical and personalized workout schedule has to be devised. Until recently most work out was done in gyms and fitness centres, however, more and more people are setting up home gyms. Home gyms are the way to go for the fitness conscious in this fast paced society. They offer convenience in that you work out in your home at your set time without having to travel in busy traffic or bad weather for an hour’s workout. Also the work out machine you want to use at a particular time is available without having to wait in line.

Convenience and Privacy

Privacy is important to most people and more so as they work out, a home gym offers this and much more, because you get to listen to the music you enjoy and have conversations that you want. Commercial gyms are turning out to be social hang outs where people come to catch up, which infringes on those out to just have a quality work out and nothing else. A home gym saves money as one also purchases the equipment that is right for their body type and strength, whereas in the commercial gym, the membership fee includes equipment and facilities that you may never use.

A home gym is especially handy for families with young children, the parent can baby sit the young ones as they work out on say the bike or the treadmill. Alternatively if they are at that age, one can set work out time to coincide with their nap time or before they wake up and after they go to sleep in the evening. A home gym will also encourage the children to work out and keep fit as they grow older.
